Can the insurance company require that I take my car to a specific repair shop?
No – This is called “steering” and it is illegal. The insurance company can refer you to a shop ONLY if you ask them to. Some insurance companies have Direct Repair Programs (DRPs) which can save the insurance company money but are not always in the best interest of the consumer.
Who guarantees the work?
The body shop guarantees the work, not the insurance company. The insurance company is required by law to pay the reasonable cost to restore your car to pre-accident condition.
What do I do if I’m not treated fairly by the Insurance company?
